The story of Moominmamma's maid Misabel was published in the 1956 comic book "Moominmamma's maid". Misabel is a small and sensitive character who feels very sorry for herself. She has straight, dark hair parted in the middle. Misabel often feels lonely and easily gets upset – even when there is no reason to. She has inherited her temper from her parents, who are just as bad-tempered as her. It does, however, seem like Misabel enjoys being miserable. When Misabel gets to participate in Moominpappa's play, as the Primadonna who meets a tragic end, she is the happiest she has ever been.
